Don't Let Your Weak Bladder Make You Miss Out On Family Visits
Posted on: August 30, 2011
Does your weak bladder makes you reluctant to stay overnight with family or friends? Does night incontinence and urine leakage cause you to miss out on seeing your grandkids? Here are some tips that may make it possible for you to make that overdue visit.
Packing With A Leaky Bladder In Mind
Big bags are in style now, so you're in luck. Be sure to bring a large tote bag with you.
You'll also want to bring a large waterproof pad to put on the bed to protect your host's mattress and sheets. Bring a few large plastic bags, too. You can slip the pad into a plastic bag and put it in your laundry bag to discreetly transport it to the washer and dryer.
If you're worried about how to throw away used incontinence products without alerting your entire family, here's how to handle it. Put the used items into one of the plastic bags you brought with you. Slip the sealed plastic bag into your tote bag, and you can throw it away later on, when you're out and about. This helps to keep your problem private.
Pack a spray can of odor neutralizer. You can spray it around your room if you're concerned about any lingering smells.
When you're going out, that big tote bag can also hold extra incontinence pads, and a change of clothes. If you should have an accident, you can easily change into dry clothing, and nobody will be the wiser. The extra plastic bags can store wet clothing until you get back.
Watch What You Eat And Drink
Avoid anything with caffeine in it, including coffee, tea, and soda. Caffeine is a diuretic, which causes your kidneys to product more urine. Stay well-hydrated, but cut back on the fluids an hour or two before you go to bed.
Spicy and acidic foods may cause urinary problems, so avoid them if they trigger spasms for you. Eat plenty of high-fiber foods to avoid constipation, which can make things worse.
Keep Up With Those Kegel Exercises
Don't neglect to do your Kegels while you're visiting. These exercises are a great way to tone the pelvic floor muscles and prevent urine leakage. If you suddenly have an urge to urinate, try doing a few. They can help you to hold it until you can get to the bathroom.
You may want to try wearing a tampon or a pessary. A tampon puts pressure on the urethra, preventing leaks, while a pessary supports the pelvic organs.
Pumpkin Seed Extract Can Help
Consider taking a natural remedy that contains water-soluble pumpkin seed extract. Many women who have tried this have been pleased with the results. It's safe and effective, with few, if any, side effects.
Don't let your weak bladder make you miss out on family visits and get-togethers. With a little planning ahead, you can enjoy those visits with your grandchildren once again.
